The University City Community Building Project (UCCBP) was established
in 2002, led by three partner organizations: The
Lee Institute, the University City YMCA and the Community Building Initiative (CBI). The project involved 28 volunteers from a variety of social, religious, educational, business and
media concerns in the University City area. They initiated a two-year demographic study of University City (click here, to learn more) and
found the area to be the most ethnically diverse area in Charlotte and with a higher level of trust among races.
Today, the UCCBP Implementation Team which grew out of the original research continues to function under the parent
structure of the University City YMCA.
UCCBP Mission
"Building on the strengths of diversity
in the University City area, the UCCBP will develop and implement an action plan to foster a greater sense of community
among those who live, work, learn and worship in University City.”
Action Plan
An action plan was developed in late 2003 with three areas of focus for action: Leadership, Physical & Social
Infrastructure and Identity & Image (click here, to see the full action
plan). |
